Snowball Community, the company behind the disability accessibility app Snowball, has been named a finalist in The Inclusion Award at the 2026 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards.
Described by the business as the world’s largest disability accessibility app, and often called the TripAdvisor for the disabled community, Snowball is available free on iOS and Android and helps people find accessible places to visit, live, work and travel, all in one platform. Its mission is simple: everyone deserves everywhere.
Real-time accessibility information
Snowball operates within the global accessibility, travel and smart cities market, supporting more than one billion disabled people worldwide alongside their families, carers and wider communities. The platform combines user-generated reviews with professional accessibility assessments to provide clear, real-time information about venues, transport and public spaces, from step-free access and Blue Badge parking to sensory ratings for neurodivergent users.
Unlike traditional providers relying on long, static reports, the company says, its app-first ecosystem delivers instant, mobile-friendly accessibility data with integrated directions via Google Maps. The platform introduces a National Disability Access Rating alongside a Stimulation Rating for sensory accessibility, which the business describes as an industry first. Businesses can join through affordable options, including a £49 ten-minute checker, making accessibility scalable and inclusive for organisations of all sizes. The company is also building what it reports is one of the most comprehensive accessibility datasets globally, supporting governments, transport systems and organisations in improving inclusion and informing sustainable urban planning.
From Dragons’ Den to the national stage
Snowball has achieved significant traction and recognition. Founder and chief executive Simon Sansome, a wheelchair user from Leicestershire, started the business after a spinal injury in 2014, as reported by BusinessCloud. Following his appearance on Dragons’ Den, where the business received offers from all five Dragons, the app saw tens of thousands of downloads, reached number five in the UK app charts and generated millions of social media views. The pitch, in the final episode of series 22, was also featured on an official gov.uk blog in January 2026, and trade titles including BusinessCloud and Insider Media have reported on the full house of offers and the company’s subsequent partnership with Google for Startups.
The business reports partnerships with leading organisations including Google, Santander, Barclays and multiple universities, and has won several major awards, including the Santander Global Award and a Best Digital & Tech Award.
Snowball is redefining accessibility, the company says, turning fragmented information into a single platform that empowers users and drives real-world change. That commitment to inclusion has now earned a place on the shortlist for The Inclusion Award, with the winner announced at the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards ceremony at Grosvenor House, London, on 10 November 2026.
