Nyton House, an independent, family-owned residential care home in West Sussex, has been named a finalist for The Gerald Edelman Family Business of the Year Award at the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards 2026.
The business has delivered adult social care for more than 45 years and, according to the company, stands among the earliest examples of private social care in the UK.
The award forms part of the UK’s largest business awards programme and recognises family firms that combine commercial discipline with long-term stewardship. Nyton House joins the shortlist announced in July 2026, with winners to be revealed at Grosvenor House in London on 10 November 2026. Outstanding in a pressured market
Independent care homes face intense competition, tighter regulation and sustained workforce pressure, and many have struggled under the strain. Nyton House reports that it has responded with foresight and discipline, expanding from 22 beds in 1999 to 44 beds in 2023 to build the scale needed for financial resilience.
The regulator’s verdict supports that account. The home holds an Outstanding rating from the Care Quality Commission, an achievement the business notes is held by fewer than 5 per cent of care homes nationally. In its assessment published in January 2025, the CQC rated Nyton House Outstanding overall, finding that residents received an exceptionally caring service from a highly motivated and responsive staff team, supported by an outstanding leadership team.

In recent years the family business has strengthened its focus on high-quality dementia care, drawing on international insight to develop a distinctive Home Style approach.
