Loqbox, the fintech that describes its purpose simply as “building better borrowers”, has been named a finalist for the ITV Growth Accelerator Award at the 2026 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards.
The company sets out to tackle a problem it says affects 16 million UK adults, who struggle to access fair credit because lenders do not have enough information to assess them properly. Someone can manage money responsibly, the business notes, yet still be denied a mortgage or a loan because their credit file tells lenders an incomplete story.
Translating everyday behaviour into credit data
Positioned as the UK’s first credit-building product, Loqbox has built a reporting infrastructure that translates everyday financial behaviours into structured credit data. Launched in 2017, it combines credit-building, saving and financial education in a single platform that, the company reports, has helped more than one million people save over £137 million since 2022 and earned more than 21,000 five-star Trustpilot reviews.
A mission that shapes the team and the product
Loqbox says its mission attracts people who want to solve one of the UK’s biggest financial inclusion challenges while building an ambitious fintech. The team, it says, is united by a belief that financial responsibility should create opportunity, supported by people-first policies, a £500 annual learning fund and a culture that puts member outcomes at the heart of every decision.
The same purpose drives its product work. Recognising that there is no average consumer, Loqbox developed Finotypes®, a research-based psychometric model of money behaviours that captures how people actually think and feel about money. Developed in-house and not publicly available, the company says Finotypes® help it design products around real human behaviour.
Responsible growth and industry standards
The business is regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority and says it has combined innovation with responsible growth. It contributed to the FCA’s Credit Information Market Study, implemented the regulator’s recommendations, and continues to support industry standards through the Credit Information Governance Body.
Purpose has also become a commercial advantage. Partnerships with Credit Karma, MoneySuperMarket and Citizens Advice have expanded access to credit building at scale, the company says. During the 2025/26 financial year, it reports that Credit Karma generated 243 per cent more sign-ups than the previous year, while its Staircase to Adulting campaign with Citizens Advice brought conversations about money and financial resilience into the mainstream. Growing independently, the business reports revenue approaching £21 million in FY2025/26, up 4.1 per cent year on year.
As a finalist in the ITV Growth Accelerator Award, Loqbox joins a shortlist of high-growth UK businesses. Winners of the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards will be announced on 10 November 2026 at Grosvenor House in London.
