Ravi Agravat, Founder of Berkfield

Awards night Tuesday 14th November Grosvenor House, London

Ravi Agravat did not take a conventional route into business. A self-taught entrepreneur from Leicester, he left formal education early and taught himself web development, ecommerce and digital systems, then used that knowledge to build Berkfield, a technology-led retail and ecommerce platform that is changing how large home and lifestyle products are bought online.

It is that personal contribution, rather than the company alone, that has made him a finalist for The Cazenove Capital Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the 2026 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards.

Rather than following the traditional retail model of owning large warehouses, holding extensive stock and carrying heavy fixed overheads, Agravat built the business around a digital-first, asset-light idea.

A different model for bulky ecommerce

Berkfield connects customers, suppliers, logistics partners and retail channels through automation, deep system integration and data-led decision-making. The approach is designed to make complex products, including furniture and other bulky items, easier and more reliable to buy online, while giving customers greater choice, stronger availability and more responsive support. It is a structural answer to a problem Agravat identified in the market: shoppers want confidence and range, while retailers wrestle with delivery complexity, returns and high fixed costs.

Under his leadership the platform now manages a catalogue of more than 165,000 products across over 200 brands, selling both directly to consumers and through national retailers and marketplaces including B&Q, Tesco, Debenhams, The Range, Wilko, Rackhams and Argos. Because the model does not depend on duplicating physical infrastructure, it can move into new products and sales channels quickly.

Recognition and reach

The business Agravat has built has drawn external recognition for both its growth and its execution. According to the company, Berkfield ranked 14th in The Sunday Times 100 Class of 2026, was named Innovation of the Year by the East Midlands Chamber, and won the HSBC Service Excellence Award. As a British Indian founder who started without a university route or outside capital, Agravat presents Berkfield as evidence that a non-traditional starting point need not limit what an entrepreneur can build.

Ambition

His stated ambition is to develop Berkfield into a trusted, technology-enabled retail platform for home, lifestyle and consumer products, expanding into new categories and international markets while keeping customer experience, operational discipline and long-term value at the centre.

That focus on the individual philosophy behind a scaling company sits at the heart of the entrepreneur category he is shortlisted in, which recognises enterprising leaders who pair strong commercial performance with inspirational leadership. Finalists across the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards will learn the outcome at Grosvenor House, London on 10 November 2026.
