The Handbag Clinic, which has turned pre-loved luxury from a fragmented, low-trust resale market into a data-driven circular business, has been named a finalist for the ITV Growth Accelerator Award at the 2026 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards.
By combining buying, selling, restoration and authentication under one roof, the company says it has built the UK’s most credible brand in luxury handbag recommerce.
That brand trust, backed by proprietary market intelligence and a strong customer experience, has accelerated commercial growth and positioned The Handbag Clinic as a partner for both consumers and global luxury brands.
Four services under one roof
What sets the business apart, it says, is not just what it does but how it does it. Most businesses in the space do one thing, whereas The Handbag Clinic does all four, supported by a proprietary technology platform that holds years of transaction data, tracks every bag end to end, and gives customers a level of confidence and transparency that no open marketplace can offer.
The brand has attracted some of the world’s most prestigious clients. Gucci, Bulgari, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Christie’s, Bonhams and Sotheby’s all trust it to handle their repairs, the company says, and celebrity advocates including Claudia Schiffer, Frankie Bridge and Caggie Dunlop have publicly endorsed the brand. In April 2024 it opened a permanent concession within RESELFRIDGES, the Selfridges circular accessories destination on Oxford Street. In 2025 and 2026, the company reports generating 12 per cent of Selfridges’ total pre-loved revenue from a fourteen-bag space and five short events.
Strong financial performance
The business says it has delivered its strongest financial performance to date, with revenue growing 25.2 per cent in 2025/26 and gross profit up 77.4 per cent. Looking ahead, it reports a £250,000 investment in a customer-facing intelligence platform launching later this year that will allow any owner of a designer bag to see in real time what their piece is worth as an asset, whether its value is rising or falling, and how quickly it would sell. Women, it argues, have never had the data to treat their wardrobe the way investors treat a portfolio.
A recognised founder
Founder and chief executive Charlotte Staerck, who established the business in 2013, has been named on the Insider North East 42 Under 42 list, invited to 11 Downing Street by the Chancellor, and is regularly cited in Grazia, The Times and Metro as an authority on pre-loved luxury.
As a finalist in the ITV Growth Accelerator Award, The Handbag Clinic joins a shortlist of high-growth UK businesses. Winners of the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards will be announced on 10 November 2026 at Grosvenor House in London.
