Borough Broth, the British organic bone broth brand, has been named a finalist for the ITV Growth Accelerator Award at the 2026 Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards, recognition of a business that has grown from a home kitchen into the UK’s number one chilled stock brand.
The company was founded in 2015 by Ros Heathcote after a chance conversation with a butcher revealed that thousands of tonnes of organic British bones were being thrown away every year. At the same time, she was struck by how much supermarket food was being made with shortcuts, additives and ingredients not found in a home kitchen. She went home, started slow-cooking small batches of broth from scratch, and has not stopped since.
Real food, made the way it should be made
Today Borough Broth makes organic bone broths, soups and frozen broth cubes using British-sourced ingredients, slow-cooked in small batches for up to 24 hours with no shortcuts and no flavour enhancers. The company operates in the chilled stock and convenience food market and says it is now the UK’s number one chilled stock brand, stocked in Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Ocado as well as thousands of delis and independents across the country.
What sets the brand apart, it says, is simple: while most stock products on shelf rely on concentrates and additives to deliver taste at scale, every Borough Broth product is made from scratch using only the finest quality organic ingredients. The business also works with organic British farmers to reclaim bones that would otherwise be discarded, turning a by-product into something nourishing.
Investment to more than double capacity
The momentum behind the brand was underlined in late 2025, when Borough Broth secured a £7.5 million investment from consumer specialist investor Piper, a deal widely reported across the food and drink press. According to the business, the funding will support a brand-new 27,000 sq ft production facility in West London that will more than double manufacturing capacity. The company reports it is currently growing at 93 per cent year on year, with revenue approaching £10 million.
Certified credentials and a low-waste model
Borough Broth is Soil Association certified organic and has been a certified B Corporation since 2021, and it reports winning 14 Great Taste Awards. The company says it produces almost no food waste, and what little it generates is converted into renewable energy through its partnership with ReFood.
The brand has always argued that convenience and real food need not be a trade-off. As a finalist in the ITV Growth Accelerator Award, it joins a shortlist of high-growth UK businesses celebrated for commercial momentum. Winners of the Lloyds British Business Excellence Awards will be announced on 10 November 2026 at Grosvenor House in London.
